Konica Minolta launches new inkjet printhead capable of jetting two colours of ink

Konica Minolta has launched the KM1800iSHK-DC, a new inkjet printhead capable of jetting two colours of ink from a single printhead.

The new printhead is part of the KM1800i industrial inkjet printhead series with an extended print width suitable for high-resolution, high-speed printing. The printhead  will be exhibited at PRINTING United Expo in October.

Typical inkjet printing for signs and graphics uses four colours (CMYK), with conventional printheads jetting only one colour, therefore requiring multiple units. The KM1800iSHK-DC can jet two colours from a single head, and with a slim 24 mm profile, it reduces the number of printheads needed, simplifies installation, and saves carriage space.

High-resolution printing on curved and rough surfaces
The KM1800iSHK-DC offers a long throw distance, allowing it to print with high quality on objects up to 10 mm away from the nozzles. This makes it effective on uneven materials such as curved or rough surfaces, and even three-dimensional objects. The added distance also reduces the risk of printhead strikes or damage to materials during transfer, helping to minimise downtime.

Faster alignment for high image quality
High-quality printing depends on ink being jetted to precise positions. The KM1800iSHK-DC uses a mounting structure that makes printhead alignment quicker and easier, reducing setup time while ensuring accuracy.

Thin structure for high-resolution printing and easy upgrades
The slim design creates a narrow spacing between nozzle rows, enabling high-resolution two-colour printing. For users of existing KM1800i printheads, the new model is designed for a smooth upgrade.

High speed and top-tier resolution
With 1,776 nozzles arranged at 600 npi across a 75 mm print width, the KM1800iSHK-DC delivers both high resolution and fast output. Combined with high-speed driving technology, it offers excellent productivity.

Stable jet performance
The customised design ensures stable jetting across a range of inks. A built-in heater allows the use of highly viscous inks, broadening application options while maintaining consistent performance.
