There is nothing monotonous about a company’s sustained efforts to maintain an exemplary social sustainability record, and Epson has achieved just that: again selected – for the 23rd consecutive year! – for inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series, designed by FTSE Russell, a London Stock Exchange Group company, to measure the performance of companies that demonstrate strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

Epson sees its inclusion in this index as objective recognition of its efforts to address environmental and social issues and to increase corporate value against its long-term corporate vision ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035. Epson aims to simultaneously realise both social and economic value and continue to generate sustainable growth, based on its efficient, compact, and precise technologies and philosophy.

News of its inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series follows in the wake of the Indonesia Epson Industry production facility achieving Platinum recognition under the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Validated Assessment Program (VAP), based on audits conducted by RBA-approved independent third-party firms. This achievement underscores Epson’s commitment to corporate social responsibility within its global supply chain.

Akifumi Takei, Executive Officer and General Administrative Manager of Epson’s Production Management Division, says: “Epson places a strong emphasis on sustainability as a foundation for creating the social value envisioned in its long-term corporate vision, ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035, and, as an RBA member, we operate our businesses in compliance with the RBA Code of Conduct.”

“By participating in the RBA’s VAP audits, Epson will continue to verify that its products are manufactured with due consideration for human rights and the global environment.”

Since joining the RBA in April 2019, Epson has embraced its responsibility to achieve the highest standards in CSR by voluntarily undergoing rigorous VAP audits at its primary production sites. These audits, performed by independent RBA-certified, third-party organisations, assess compliance with the RBA Code of Conduct in critical areas such as labour practices, health and safety, environmental standards and ethics.

Epson’s commitment to responsible manufacturing is underscored by other successful VAP assessments across a number of production sites in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and the Philippines, achieving Platinum recognition.

The FTSE4Good Index Series is widely used to create and evaluate sustainable investment funds and other financial products. Epson has also been selected for inclusion in the FTSE JPX Blossom Japan Index, FTSE JPX Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index, MSCI Nihonkabu ESG Select Leaders Index, MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN), S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index, and the Morningstar Japan ex-REIT Gender Diversity Tilt Index. These are ESG investor indices comprised of Japanese stocks that are used by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).
